Approximately 40 pharmacies will be trained to conduct interventions designed to increase the quality of drug therapy by increasing adherence to standard guidelines involving drug therapy. The training session will provide clinical training, literature supporting the rationale of the intervention, and all documentation material. Interventions will be selected based upon the ability of a community pharmacist to detect patients needing intervention, literature supporting specific drug therapy, and evidence that patients are currently not receiving optimal drug therapy. Pharmacies will be provided clinical and financial support to provide these interventions, and document the results. An analysis of the pharmacists ability to execute the interventions and the outcome of the interventions will be conducted. Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and Northeast Pharmacy Service Corporation, a network of independent community pharmacies located in the New England area, will support this project.
