Objectives
By all estimates electronic prescribing e prescribing is just around the corner as it is being embraced by more prescribers and medical organizations. Electronic prescribing pilot programs are required as part of the Medicare Drug Program 2006. There has been considerable discussion and printed materials about the value of e-presribing for prescribers and medical organizations. The impact on the everyday practice of pharmacy has not been a significant component of this forecasting. The primary goal of this project is to engage a cooperative and collaborative relationship between a community pharmacy and a physician group to assure pharmacist involvement, from the beginning, with the implementation of electronic prescribing and thereafter to assess and evaluate its impact on physicians, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. This study will provide community pharmacy an important look see before e-prescribing becomes more commonplace so that the profession can strategize important work flow considerations to increase pharmacists opportunity for direct patient care services associated with improved medication management ... now integrated with the prescriber.
