State pharmacy practice acts across the United States grant pharmacy technicians specific scopes of authority, delineating their roles and responsibilities within the healthcare system. These scopes of authority vary significantly between states, often resulting in inconsistencies and limitations that hinder the full utilization of pharmacy technicians skills and potential to optimize patient care. Currently, there lacks a universally recognized "best practice" framework to guide policymakers and pharmacy professionals in enhancing pharmacy technician scopes of authority within their respective jurisdictions. The objectives for this project include: 1. Conduct comprehensive research into existing pharmacy technician scope of authority laws and regulations across the United States. 2. Convene a workgroup consisting of national- and state-level leaders?including both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. 3. Develop consensus-based policy recommendations including principles for best practice policies regulating the scope of authority for pharmacy technicians. 4. Draft a report detailing the workgroup?s recommendations. 5. Use the learnings from the policy research and workgroup findings to assemble an advocacy toolkit for pharmacist and pharmacy technician advocates. 6. Disseminate the project deliverables to relevant stakeholders.
