IN  THE  NEWS  …  Community Pharmacy Foundation (CPF) Board member, Linda MacLean of Washington State University College of Pharmacy was appointed to serve as Chair of 2012-13 Professional Affairs Committee by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) President, Lyle Bootman.

AT  AACP … CPF was very active and visible at this past year’s AACP Annual Meeting, with an exhibit and participation by several Board members. This is prime opportunity for college of pharmacy faculty to meet with officials of CPF to learn how they can apply for funding support for projects and studies designed to assist community pharmacists enhance their patient care services.

$5 MILLION  … Since CPF began operational activities in 2002 it has awarded over $5 Million in grants and sponsorships … 80% of which to colleges of pharmacy whereby faculty work with community pharmacists/pharmacies in providing services to enhance patient care services. Some of these activities are isolated to a particular pharmacy or group of pharmacies and in other instances it is a network of area community pharmacies working with a local/regional/statewide health plan. During this 10-year period 125 grants have been awarded and 76 have been completed. 76  COMPLETED  GRANTS …  A very valuable resource for the “world of pharmacy” is on the CPF Website in the form of all the 76 completed grants/studies funded by the Community Pharmacy Foundation. In this Website section one finds the recipe to duplicate/replicate many of the projects implemented in community pharmacies to advance patient care services. Furthermore the Principal Investigator (“PI”) is listed who can be a valuable resource for other community pharmacists who wish to pursue the idea further for their respective pharmacy.

FEATURED  COMPLETED  GRANT … “A must read review of a fantastic sharing of economic information and “how to, ” “ were the comments from one community pharmacists after reading a recently released CPF completed grant. This study, “A Comprehensive Longitudinal Assessment of an Innovative Community Pharmacy Practice,” examined Towncrest Pharmacy (Iowa City) according to the experiences of national award-winning, innovator community pharmacist, Randy McDonough, PharmD, MS, RPh. The data was collected, analyzed and reported through the efforts of a team of pharmacy faculty, headed up by William (Bill) Doucette from the University of Iowa. In fact the essential ingredients of the report for this CPF-funded study was featured in the March/April 2012 edition of the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPhA).
