PQA / CPF Inaugural Community Pharmacy Innovation in Quality (CPIQ) Awards
The newly established CPIQ awards recognize high performance for a pioneering individual practitioner and an innovative community pharmacy practice that result in improvements in quality of care, medication optimization and patient outcomes.
Individual category- Kari Trapskin, vice president of Health Care Quality Initiatives at the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, has been recognized for her contributions to the Wisconsin Pharmacy Quality Collaborative (WPQC), a quality and service payment initiative. Launched in 2007, the WPQC is a sustainable program providing expanded pharmacy services that are reimbursed by payors. Wisconsin Medicaid wishes to expand this cost-effective program. Pharmacy category- Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio won the award for its collaborative and innovative model providing comprehensive pharmacy services for vulnerable patients who may otherwise lack access to essential prescription medications. The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio demonstrated success in medication optimization, using a longitudinal model that allows for continuity of patient care.
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting
CPF Board and staff will visit Boston in mid-July to engage with academic researchers conducting
innovative projects with community pharmacy practitioners. Former and current grantees are encouraged to stop by our exhibit booth to re-connect about prior projects and share their current activities. This is also a great opportunity for new applicants to learn about the CPF process and funding interests guided by the 2018 Strategic Interests.

CPF grantee Brian Isetts, PhD, BCPS, FAPhA, FASCP, at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, and a panel of colleagues will present on Monday July 23, 2018 at 8:30 am at the Economic & Social Sciences section (Hynes Convention Center: Room 311, Third Floor). The topic relates to a completed grant of community pharmacists into a community-based accountable care organization (ACO). The AACP session is titled: “The Academy’s Scholarly Responsibilities in an Era of Value-based Practice Transformation.”

ONU Recognizes Distinguished Alumni -- CPF Board Member, Randy Myers
Ohio Northern University’s Alumni Association presented Distinguished Alumni Awards during a recent event on campus. The awards recognized alumni who have demonstrated loyalty to their alma mater, community and profession.
Randall Myers of Carey, Ohio, earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from ONU and is currently president, owner and director of pharmacy services of Harry’s Pharmacy Inc. in Carey, Ohio. He has worked with Harry’s Pharmacy since graduating from college and then purchasing the business from his father in 1990.

DAA Collaboration with Healthy People 2020 - Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP)
The Diabetes Advocacy Alliance™ (DAA) and the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), have a strategic partnership to help advance Healthy People 2020 diabetes objectives related to prevention and treatment. On June 13th, 2018 the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion partnered with the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance on a webinar entitled, "Promoting Awareness of and Participation in Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP): New Payment Options." The webinar featured leading experts in diabetes prevention including: Dr. Ann Albright, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Carlye Burd, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation; Heather Hodge, YMCA of the USA; Janet Williams, American Medical Association; and Peggy Sczepanski, Dow Chemical.

Grants Completed
One grant has been finalized since the last newsletter. This grant explores pharmacists' baseline knowledge of veterinary pharmacotherapy and then a re-evaluation for a subset of participants following an educational intervention. The education materials include an overview of the veterinary marketplace followed by sections for veterinary anatomy/physiology, toxicology principles, veterinary prescriptions, regulatory/ethical issues and nonsterile compounding.
Two members of the research team members, Natalie Young and Gigi Davidson, presented the findings on June 12, 2018 at the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists 37th Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

Members from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Center for Innovation in Pharmacy Simulation (CIPS) won four Hermes awards. The interactive webpage, designed as part of a grant from the Community Pharmacy Foundation, outlines principles of team-based health care. The Hermes Creative Awards honor creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media, with over 6,500 entries across the fields of communications, marketing, PR, advertising, design and production.

The NCPA Foundation and NCPDP partner to assist independent community pharmacy practitioners to engage in NCPDP workgroups and meetings. The current representatives are Christian Tadrus (Sams Health Mart Pharmacies, Moberly, MO); Farah Towfic (Osterhaus Pharmacy, Maquoketa, Iowa); and, C.A. Kuykendall (Village Pharmacy, Ozark, Arkansas). Farah was recently acknowledged for her participation in the June 2018 University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy Newsletter. In May 2018, Christian was appointed as a newly elected board member with NCPDP - congrats!
