Flip the Pharmacy (FtP)
On June 27, 2019, CPF and CPESN® USA launched the Flip the Pharmacy (FtP) program. This is a nationwide movement to transform community pharmacy away from point-in-time, prescription-level activity and towards longitudinal and patient-level care processes and business models. The goal of Flip the Pharmacy is to sustain community-based pharmacy practice by creating scalable and sustainable care and business processes among clinically integrated networks.
Flip the Pharmacy introduces a new category to CPF grant funding, whereby CPESN® USA will administer the program in collaboration with CPF. To launch the program, CPF committed grant funding of approximately 3.3 million dollars over the first 2-years of a planned 5-year program. Grant funding and resources will be awarded to qualified Practice Transformation Team applicants to act as implementation arms for locally-based community pharmacy practice transformation efforts.
The application cycle for Flip the Pharmacy is in addition to, and also differs from the existing quarterly CPF grant application cycles. FtP applications will occur on an annual basis and must be submitted by Practice Transformation Teams through the FtP application website. Applications for the FtP program will be due in August prior to the established CPF board meeting. FtP funding priorities include applicant teams that have established payer relationship(s) and lean budgeting, with consideration given to geographic and population density factors. To learn more about the application requirements and process, visit www.flipthepharmacy.com. The FtP application deadline for the Year 1 cohort is August 12, 2019.
AACP Pharmacy Education 2019
CPF Board and staff members will be in Chicago for the AACP meeting to engage with academic researchers conducting innovative projects with community pharmacy practitioners. Former and current grantees are encouraged to stop by our exhibit booth to re-connect about prior projects and share their current activities. This is also a great opportunity for new applicants to learn about the CPF process and funding interests guided by the 2019 Strategic Interests as well as talk about the new Flip the Pharmacy program.

Ongoing Impact
Grantees who provide updates on how an initial CPF grant has either expanded or 'opened new doors' to advance pharmacy practice are recognized in the 'Ongoing Impact' section of their grant details page.

Korey Kennelty, PharmD, MS, PhD - The University of Iowa
Grant Title: Development of a community pharmacy fall risk assessment model
|
This CPF grant helped researcher Korey Kennelty obtain one of three Centers for Disease Control (CDC) funded research grants. Korey was awarded a $3 million grant to examine integration methods for deprescribing opioids, benzodiazepines, and anti-cholinergic medications for older patients who have experienced a fall. The research team will utilize a telehealth pharmacy program, including working with community pharmacists, to create an action plan to deprescribe medications. Korey and team are very grateful for the initial CPF grand funding, which led to a larger CDC grant, so they can continue evaluating the increased role of pharmacists taking care of older adult patients. |
